Question:
What berachah does one recite upon hearing thunder & seeing lighting?
What does one do if one hears the thunder and sees the lighting at the same time?
How many times a day may one recite these Berachot?
Answer:
The berachah one recites upon hearing thunder is the berachah of "shekocho u’gvorato maleh olam".
The berachah one recites upon seeing lighting is the berachah "oseh maaseh bereshit"
If one saw lightning and heard thunder at the same time, then one should only recite one berachah on both, being the berachah of “oseh maaseh bereshit.” However, if one sees lightening, without thunder he should recite "Oseh maaseh bereshit" and if one only heard thunder then the berachah of “shekocho u’gvorato maleh olam” should be recited. These berachot should only be recited either only once a day, such as if it was raining, and then one went to sleep through the night and woke up and it was still raining, or if the sky became completely clear and it is obvious that another storm has approached. [2]
