Question:

Is one obligated to eat bread on Rosh Chodesh?

Should one add something extra to Ones meal on Rosh Chodesh?

Answer:

It is a mitzvah to prepare more food than usual for oneโ€™s meal in honor of Rosh Chodesh. [1] Some people fulfill this mitzvah by adding another course to their meal. Similarly, if Rosh Chodesh is on Shabbat, one should add an extra dish that he would not regularly have on Shabbat, in honor of Rosh Chodesh.

[2] One is not obligated to eat bread, meat, fish, or wine on Rosh Chodesh, but it is praiseworthy to do so. [3]

Furthermore, One who is making a meal in honor of Rosh Chodesh should preferably do so during the daytime. [4]
