Question:
What are some customs of the Torah reading of Minchah on Shabbat?
Answer:
Before taking out the sefer Torah, the paragraph of “Berich Shemei” is recited.[1]
During Keriat HaTorah, at least ten pesukim from the beginning of the next weeks parashah is recited and three Aliyot are called up. One may not add or detract to these Aliyot. If one accidentally read the wrong parashah, then one does not have to repeat the keriat hatorah again. [2]
After the last Aliyah, Kaddish is not recited. It is customary to recite “Mizmor Shir Le’Yom HaShabbat” immediately after the Keriat HaTorah. Only once the Torah is returned to the hechal does the chazzan recite a half-kaddish before the Amidah. [3]
The Shabbat Amidah for Minchah begins with the paragraph “Atah Echad.” [4]
One should recite the words “Umi Ke’Amchah Ke’Yisrael Goy Echad BaAretz,” just as is written in the verse in Shemuel II, 2:23, and not “Ke’Amchah Yisrael…” as it is written in the verse in Divrei HaYamim I 17:21.[5]
