Question:
What does one do if one forgot to recite Yaaleh VeYavo in Birkat HaMazon on Rosh Chodesh?
Answer:
On Rosh Chodesh, Yaaleh VeYavo is recited in Birkat HaMazon. However, one who forgot to recite it does not repeat Birkat HaMazon. [1]
One who realized that he forgot to recite Yaaleh VeYavo prior to reciting the berachah of Boneh Yerushalayim should go back and recite it. If one has only recited the words Baruch Atah Hashem without yet finishing the berachah, he should end with the words lamideni chukecha, and then return to Yaaleh VeYavo.[2] Regarding this halachah, there is no difference between reciting Birkat HaMazon during the day or night. [3]
If one recalled his error prior to beginning the berachah of HaTov VeHaMetiv, he should recite the berachah of Baruch SheNatan Roshei Chodashim LeAmo Yisrael LeZikaron (without reciting the Name of Hashem). [4]
