Question:
May one add liquid to powders on Shabbat?
Make one make instant mash potatoes on Shabbat?
Answer:
One may make milk or baby-formula from dehydrated milk on Shabbat without a shinuy.[1]
When making a porridge for a baby, it is permitted to make it normally if it is runny; however, if it is thick, one should use a shinuy when making it. [2] . It is permitted to make Jello on Shabbat by pouring hot water (from a kli sheni) onto the powder and placing it in the fridge to harden. [3] Nontheless, it is prohibited to make instant mashed potatoes on Shabbat by adding water to the potato powder, since it combines the mixture into a dough like substance.[4]
