Combing A Wig On Shabbat

The Daily Halacha Moment - Combing A Wig On Shabbat💇

״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)

“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)

Question:

May one comb a wig on Shabbat?

Answer:

Menapetz does not apply to live hair or fur, because hair and fur while they are attached to a living being cannot be properly spun into thread.[1] It is, however, forbidden to comb one’s hair because of Gozez, as we've mentioned in a previous Halacha Moment.

One may comb a wig on Shabbat if the following conditions are met:

1) By combing it one will not pull out any hairs.

2) One could theoretically go outside with the wig even without combing it, and only a slight

combing is necessary.

3) One should use a comb that one does not usually use during the week. [2]
