hOW DOES ONE DO TESHUVAH?

The Daily Halacha Moment - Teshuvah 📙

״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן

‎העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)

“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)

Question:

How does one do Teshuvah?

Answer:

Every teshuva process has the basic elements: (See the Rambam, Hilchot Teshuvah, chapter 2)

1. Regretting the action.

2. Verbalizing repentance to Hashem such as during tahanun, (in the prayers would be a good time to become filled with remorse and regret)

3. Accepting upon yourself never to return to the sin or to the situations that put you in that test.

4. Lastly, of course stopping the sinful actions.

Generally, there is no greater form of Teshuva than genuine and substantial increase in Torah learning, both quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Meaning, one should increase the amount of Torah one learns both in time, material, as well as delving deeper into the areas you are currently studying. This doesn’t mean that you need to learn all day, but any extra time you may have, should be spent on Torah learning.

Once all these steps are completed, it is very important one keeps a positive outlook. Hashem loves us He wants us to get closer to Him. ❤️
