Question:
Until when does one have to read Shenayim Mikra V’echad Targum for the week?
Answer:
Preferably, shenayim mikra should be completed before attending synagogue on Shabbat morning, [1] or at least before one starts the meal after Mussaf. [2] If that is not possible then one should finish before Mincha on Shabbat. [3] If one still could not do so, one may complete it until the end of the third day of the following week. [4] If one still has not finished reading the parashah, one may technically still fulfill the mitzvah until Shemini Atzeret, but one should not initially push off doing so until this time. [5] Nonetheless, as we've mentioned when we first started discussing the topic of Shenayim Mikra V’echad targum one should be very careful with this mitzvah as the Gemara (Berachot 8a) states that one who reads shenayim mikra v’echad targum along with the tzibbur is granted long life. Who doesn't want a long life?! 😁
