Question:
What is the melachah Of Meraked?
Answer:
Meraked is the prohibition of sifting. Flour was needed to be sifted to remove any remaining impurities in the process of making Lechem haPanim daily. In terms of constructing the Beit HaMikdash, sifting was also done to make dyes, by sifting the ground herb powder before mixing it with water to make the dye.
That being said, It is prohibited to sift flour from impurities with a sieve, sand from stones, or even ground matzah from the larger pieces. [1]
